about the boat

The Brooklyn Girl is a new 2019 custom built USCG inspected 35 passenger party/charter fishing vessel.  She is super clean and immaculately maintained.  Her big, wide open walk around deck is spacious and comfortable.

Despite her nearly 50 feet of length and 15+ feet of beam this easy sailing, solid fiberglass, full keel, hard chine Carman hull will carry her load swiftly and ably to and from the fishing grounds.   

Her twin 2019 Cummins QSB 6.7 commercially rated turbo diesels provide 710HP and 22 knots of top speed.  They run clean and quiet with zero exhaust fumes.  The vessel will cruise easily at 14-17 knots at just 50-60% engine loads.

The boat also carries more than the required safety equipment including an automated AED machine and extensive first aid kits.  The wheelhouse is loaded with top notch big screen navigation, fish finding, and communication equipment.

about us

Capt. Ken Holmes did not take the traditional path to becoming a charter boat captain.  He was not born into a fishing family and did not purchase an existing business from a captain he had worked for.  He developed an obsession for fishing at the age of 12 and has operated fishing boats since the age of 14.  His first jobs were in commercial fish markets and boat yards, and eventually he began working as a mate aboard area charter boats before landing in Huntington with Capt. John Alberda's "Sound Charters."  Ken obtained his first Capts' license in 1994 and began running the boat under Capt. John's watch.

Capt. Ken & his wife Barbara had made the move to Long Island's east end in 1998 and in 2000, purchased a Duffy lobster boat in need of major TLC.  They fixed her up and started their own business from scratch, first sailing from Greenport before making the move east to Orient in 2002.  The boat was named "Brooklyn Girl" after Barbara and her home town.  The transition was an easy one and the business quickly took off, becoming one of the busiest 6-pack vessels in the port of Orient.  They developed a reputation for going all out for a loyal following of anglers.  Capt. Ken has now logged over 30 years all behind the wheel of charter fihing boats.  He holds a 100 ton USCG Master license with a 100 mile coastal endorsement.  The current BG is our third vessel.

Besides fishing, Ken has worked hard in other aspects of his life.  Once a Stony Brook University basketball player, Ken holds a bachelor degree in business from Hofstra University, a masters degree from LIU, and has served as a PE teacher and coach in South Country schools for the last 29 years while running the Brooklyn Girl's busy schedule.  Barbara handles the bookings and schedule while also volunteering at America's VetDogs Foundation in Smithtown.

All trips include bait, ice, & rod/reel rental if needed. Only extra expense is the customary 20% tip to the crew. Head of private charter please collect the tip from your whole group on final charter price. Split/Open Boat trips - Please tip on the $150 fare.	The crew on the BG is experienced, highly skilled and professional. They work from before the trip until long after to make sure your experience is top notch. From a clean boat to caring for your catch, cleaning, icing, and bagging your catch, taking photos of your catch, and expert advice.

Trips

We do both private charters up to 20-25 people as well as "split charters" which are our version of an open boat.  Private charters are available for any open date on the schedule.  For "split charters" we have a running schedule throughout the season from late April until early December.  Please contact us for the latest "split charter" schedule.  We offer full day, extended full day ocean, evening, and half days trips.

Directions to the boat

The Brooklyn Girl sails from Duryeas Marina & Restaurant in Orient Point, NY.  The Marina lies between Orient Beach State Park and the Cross Sound Ferry which runs to New London, Connecticut.  There is ample parking right next to the dock as well as a porta-potty.

The Brooklyn Girl fishes from late April through early December

We will travel to fish waters from Peconic Bay to Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean.  We are blessed at Orient Point to have many choices of areas to fish and can fish in comfort many days even when the winds blow.  

We are a serious fishing boat but also strive to keep a fun atmosphere on the boat.  Families and beginners are always welcome.  The Capt. and crew will do everything we can to ensure you catch what you came for and have a great time doing it.  Meet new fishing friends on the split charter trips.  Our regulars are some really great people.
